Sullivan's Crossing takes place in a breathtaking landscape with an abundance of lakes, forests and cliffs.
In the hit CW/CTV show, the characters navigate their personal and professional lives in the fictional town of Timberlake in Nova Scotia, Canada. Within the town of Timberlake lies a small campground named Sullivan's Crossing where the main character Maggie Sullivan (Morgan Kohan) lives. The hit series also stars Chad Michael Murray, Scott Patterson and Tom Jackson, among others.
The first season of Sullivan's Crossing began production in Nova Scotia in June 2022 and premiered in March 2023. In July 2025, the first two seasons of the show were added to Netflix.
The show was based on the book series of the same name by Robyn Carr (who also wrote Virgin River), but the novels originally took place in the Rocky Mountains. However, the showrunner, Roma Roth, previously shared how important it was to her to alter the location to Nova Scotia.
“To ensure the show would feel distinctive from her [Carr's] other adaptation, I decided to set it in Nova Scotia for Nova Scotia," she told Variety in 2022. "This meant diverging from the books slightly; however, having been born and raised in Canada it’s always been a personal goal of mine to create and write a Canadian content show that would reach a global audience."

Several of the Sullivan's Crossing cast members have gushed about getting to film in Nova Scotia. Kohan, who plays Maggie, praised Halifax for the variety it has to offer.
"Oh my God, I love this city," she told Brit + Co in 2023. "The nice thing about it too is it's a city and then [a little bit] out, you can be out on a trail somewhere in a small community. There's just so many different bits and pieces you can pick from."
Murray, who plays Cal Jones, told Parade in 2023 that Halifax is a "hidden gem" with both a "cool urban downtown" and a "picturesque landscape."
"It is the best kept secret in Canada. This place is absolutely magic," he told the outlet. "We’re out there every day and it’s just such a breath of fresh air filming. You’re among nature and you can’t help but feel so grounded. It’s pretty spectacular. It’s a place that people need to go.”
Meanwhile, Patterson, who plays Harry “Sully” Sullivan, told Decider that the cast members also try to get out and explore Halifax whenever they have free time.
"This is a beautiful place. I mean every day, if we’re not on the stage, we’re out in nature. And even surrounding the soundstage are wonderful nature views,” Patterson told the outlet in 2023. "It’s hard to be away from my family for a month at a time or whatever it is. But if you’re gonna do that, this is a pretty nice place to be and work.”
