- *Marty Supreme *centers on a young man determined to make his mark in competitive ping-pong.

- Timothée Chalamet stars as the confident protagonist, joined by Gwyneth Paltrow, Fran Drescher, and *Shark Tank*'s Mr. Wonderful.

- The A24 release* *is slated to hit theaters on Dec. 25, 2025.

Following his Oscar-nominated turn as Bob Dylan in *A Complete Unknown*, Timothée Chalamet returns to the big screen this Christmas with *Marty Supreme*. Not your typical sports drama, this 1950s-set film centers on the intense, competitive world of professional ping-pong.

Chalamet stars and produces, while acclaimed director Josh Safdie (*Good Time*, *Uncut Gems*) brings his signature mix of sweaty intensity and off-beat humor to the story. *Marty Supreme* goes beyond the ping-pong table, though, highlighting the unpredictable, messy path to greatness in a sport that rarely gets the limelight.

Ready to jump into the world of ping-pong? Here's everything we know so far about *Marty Supreme*, from the release date to its cast, plot details, and teaser trailer.

Is there a trailer for Marty Supreme?

Yes, the official teaser trailer for *Marty Supreme *arrived in August.

Set to the nostalgic strains of Alphaville's "Forever Young," the trailer opens with Marty Mauser in a lavish hotel suite, standing on the bed as he talks on the phone with a starlet played by Oscar winner Gwyneth Paltrow. "I've never talked to an actual movie star," Marty admits. "You know, I'm something of a performer, too."

We then see brief glimpses of Marty stepping off a plane, as well as moments between him and his love interest, played by Odessa A'zion (*Hellraiser*, *Until Dawn*).

He later confides in her, "I have a purpose, and if you think that's some sort of blessing, it's not. It means I have an obligation to see a very specific thing through, and with that obligation comes sacrifice." Her character offers her support, promising to be there for Marty if he needs any help.

The trailer cuts to energetic sequences of intense ping-pong before introducing a character played by *Shark Tank *star (and Fox News staple) Kevin O'Leary. Marty sits across from him and confidently says, "I know it's hard to believe, but I'm telling you, this game… it fills stadiums overseas. And it's only a matter of time before I'm staring at you from the cover of a Wheaties box."

Also glimpsed? A heated encounter between Marty and a character played by Tyler Okonma, a.k.a Tyler, the Creator.

In the trailer's final moments, Paltrow's character asks, "What do you plan to do if this whole dream of yours doesn't work out?" Marty smiles and replies, "That doesn't even enter my consciousness."

The screen soon fades to the title card, followed by two important words: "Dream Big." The teaser ends with a playful scene where Marty pitches a bright orange ping-pong ball, claiming it will be easier for spectators to follow.

When a businessman says a custom ball like that is going to "cost a lot of money," another insists, "Of course, it's custom. It's an original ball for an original guy. It's the Marty Supreme one, not the Marty normal ball."

What is *Marty Supreme *about?

The official description of *Marty Supreme* introduces Marty Mauser as "a young man with a dream no one respects" who "goes to hell and back in pursuit of greatness."

Though the teaser trailer highlights Marty's intense journey, Paltrow previously hinted to *Vanity Fair* that the film also has a steamy side. "We have a lot of sex in this movie," she revealed. "There's a lot — *a lot.*"**

Is *Marty Supreme *based on a true story?

Kind of, but not really. While never officially confirmed, the film is said to be loosely inspired by professional ping-pong player Marty Reisman. But don't expect a biopic, as *Marty Supreme* has been marketed as a fictional story.

Who’s in the *Marty Supreme *cast?

Chalamet leads the cast as Marty Mauser, joined by Paltrow, A'zion, O'Leary, and Okonma.

Rounding out the supporting cast is Fran Drescher (*The Nanny*) as Marty's mother, along with Sandra Bernhard (*Rosanne*, *Severance*) and Spenser Granese (*Mayans M.C.). *

As Safdie is known to do, the filmmaker has also recruited a handful of unconventional performers, including legendary filmmaker Abel Ferrara (*Bad Lieutenant*), magician Penn Jillette, and renowned French high-wire artist Philippe Petit, the subject of 2008's Oscar-winning documentary *Man On Wire*.

Paltrow disclosed some details about her character, describing her as a woman connected to the mysterious "ping-pong mafia."

Despite her own complicated ties to that world, Paltrow's character falls into a complicated (but "transactional") relationship with Marty. "They meet and she's had a pretty tough life, and I think he breathes life back into her," Paltrow explained to *Vanity Fair*.
