*Resident Alien*, a cult-favorite sci-fi dramedy on the USA Network, has been canceled after four seasons, ** has confirmed.
The show had faced an uncertain future after narrowly escaping cancellation last season. Season 4 was written as though it would be the final season and the finale will be "satisfying" for fans, EW has learned.
The season finale, which will now serve as the series finale, will air on Aug. 8.
Creator Chris Sheridan told TV Insider that he knew this would likely be the final season, explaining that it was "exciting" to shape the rest of the show with this in mind.
“I knew we could spend the time wrapping up some storylines and driving toward an ending," Sheridan told TV Insider. "I’m so proud of how good Season 4 is and especially proud that we were able to finish as strongly as we did, with a finale that is probably my favorite episode of the series.”

*Resident Alien* follows an alien (Alan Tudyk) who was sent to earth to destroy humanity. He crash-lands in a Colorado town and assumes the identity of Dr. Harry Vanderspeigle, a doctor he killed. After being pushed into the position of town doctor, Harry develops empathy for humanity and abandons his mission to protect humans from extraterrestrial threats.
Originally a Syfy series, *Resident Alien* moved to USA after season 3, although it simulcasts on both channels. The series is the last current scripted series on USA. Its upcoming legal drama *The Rainmaker* premieres on Aug. 15.
USA and Syfy are moving under Versant, a cable spinoff company from NBCUniversal. While the current scripted line-up for USA is slim, Versant recently announced its first slate of shows, including a new drama titled *Anna Pigeon, *which is expected to hit the network in 2026.
