Get ready to sing a song of a lass who is gone one final time.
On Friday, Sam Heughan and the *Outlander *team announced the Starz series' final season will make its debut in early 2026, though the exact date has yet to be announced.
The final season, which wrapped production in fall 2024, will include 10 episodes and wrap up the epic love story of Jamie Fraser (Heughan) and Claire Randall (Caitriona Balfe). The season will reportedly touch on story points from Diana Gabaldon's ninth *Outlander *novel, *Go Tell the Bees that I am Gone, *and perhaps hint at what is to come in her still untitled tenth and final book.
The first footage of the final season was also revealed at the Comic-Con panel, ending with an ominous statement from Jamie, who has been reading Frank's book. "What does it say?" Claire asks her husband. "War is coming to the back country," Jamie responds. "And that James Fraser dies in it."
The previous season aired its finale in Jan. 2025, and it ended with massive tragedy as William (Charles Vandervaart) rushed to rescue Jane (Silvia Presente) from prison, only to find that she had already died by suicide. Jamie and Claire took in her younger sister Fanny (Florrie Wilkinson), only for Claire to overhear Fanny singing a modern tune that she once sang to her and Jamie's child, Faith, whom Master Raymond said had died.

"The reveal that Faith didn't die is a huge moment for the characters," Heughan previously told **. "The audience are going to be quite shocked as well. The repercussions of that are definitely going to play out in season 8. That song at the end is going to stick with the fans — for the rest of the droughtlander, anyway."

Roger (Richard Rankin) and Buck (Diarmaid Murtagh) successfully reunited with Brianna (Sophie Skelton) and the kids, with Roger commenting on home being a matter of "when" not "where." Ian (John Bell) and Rachel (Izzy Meikle-Small) resolved to move back to the Ridge with the happy news that Rachel is expecting their first child, a much needed balm in the wake of the death of Ian's dog Rollo.

Until next year, fans can tide themselves over with new prequel series, *Outlander: Blood of my Blood, *which debuts on Starz Aug. 8. The series follows the love stories of Jamie's parents, Brian (Jamie Roy) and Ellen (Harriet Slater), and Claire's parents, Julia (Hermione Corfield) and Henry (Jeremy Irvine).
And for those fearing the permanent droughtlander, don't worry: *Blood of my Blood *has already been renewed for season 2.
