By the power of Grayskull… the upcoming He-Man movie is making Mattel executives very excited.
PJ Lewis — the toy company's senior vice president, global marketing and category leader who heads the brand's action figure endeavors — tells ** that visiting the set of *Masters of the Universe* provoked a physical reaction.
"I can quantify how great visiting the set was by how many times I got goosebumps of excitement — it was off the charts," the toy exec says, speaking to EW from the exhibition hall at San Diego Comic-Con, where the company has several movie props and products on display.
He continues, "The moment that stands out was seeing the Power Sword for the first time, but also being in some of the sets and seeing the visual nature from the set design — we built an incredible world, and it's gonna be really exciting for us to bring to our fans."
The live-action take on the iconic toy franchise will star Nicholas Galitzine as He-Man, Camila Mendes as Teela, Jared Leto as Skeletor, Alison Brie as Evil-Lyn, and Idris Elba as Man-At-Arms. Travis Knight, who previously helmed the stop-motion adventure *Kubo and the Two Strings* and the *Transformers* spinoff *Bumblebee*, is directing the project.

"We've had an incredible relationship with the filmmakers to talk about what He-Man and *Masters of the Universe* means to so many people throughout the years," Lewis tells EW. "And we have a very passionate, creative design team in-house. They were all about soaking in what it could be for them to make the most authentic *Masters of the Universe* film imaginable with our years of product and lore. And it's phenomenal. What we have seen so far is gonna really make the fans jump out of their seats. Travis Knight — his vision from day one has been spot-on."

Lewis also says that his love for the original *He-Man and the Masters of the Universe* animated series, which popularized He-Man and his allies during its run from 1983 to 1985, has made the production of the new *MOTU* movie all the more meaningful for him.
"I personally grew up with *Masters of the Universe*, and I'm excited for the fans that remember the cartoon, and remember the things in the moments of our youth," he says. "But passing it on to my kids is gonna be a lot of fun. This is a moment for me to watch with my kids, what I think is one of the best '80s properties, when you think about all the great pop culture that came out of the '80s — it's the embodiment of good versus evil. And I can't wait for that moment with my family."
