Brandon Routh surprised the packed All-American Rejects concert at Fandom's Thursday night Comic-Con party in San Diego.
The former Hollywood Superman walked out on stage dressed in full Spider-Man cosplay. Lead singer Tyson Ritter then ripped off his mask to show the cheering crowd. Routh then grabbed the mic to promote his new film, horror-comedy *Ick*.
"I love you Comic-Con! And...See my new movie, *Ick*, in theaters July 27, 28, and 29! And listen to the rest of awesome music!" Routh shouted from the stage.

"Brandon Routh, ladies and gentlemen," Ritter said. "He's my f---ing Superman, that's for f---ing sure! The Super-duper-man!"
Why was Routh promoting *Ick* during an All-American Rejects show? It's related to the shoutout Ritter gave in the direct aftermath.
The singer credited Joseph Kahn, the director of *Ick*, who "took a bet on this band 10 years after we had our head in the sand and made a f---ing great music video for us," he said. That video was "Sandbox," which was released this past April. The trailer for *Ick* also samples the All-American Rejects song "Swing, Swing."

In *Ick*, Routh stars as Hank, a former high school football prospect who grows up to be a science teacher. While dealing with drama involving his old girlfriend, an alien species known as the "ick" invades his town. The movie premiered at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival.
Routh is also generally big in the geek space, having starred as the Man of Steel in 2006's *Superman Returns*. He then played the Atom on the CW's interconnected DC TV series, including *Legends of Tomorrow*, *The Flash*, *Arrow*, *Batwoman*, and *Supergirl*. Routh also returned to the role of Superman for these shows, as well, though he played alternate-reality versions of the character.
